FVSU WILDCATS DROPPED A NAIL BITER TO MOREHOUSE

FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) (9-10; 6-4) Men's Basketball Team played this afternoon's game down to the wire but came up short in the 72-70 loss to Morehouse College (MHC) (14-0; 9-0) Saturday evening at the HPE Complex.
 
Walter Foster led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding with 16-points and eight rebounds, while Jaylon McMillan and Tyler Edwards added 14-points apiece. James Barnes connected for 10-points. J. R. Bryant dished out five assists.
 
Tyrius Walker led Morehouse with 35-points and Omar Alston grabbed nine boards.
 
MHC's largest lead of 11-points came in the first half, while the Wildcats' 6-point lead came at the 10:35 mark in the second half. FVSU turned the ball over 13 times to MHC's 15, but the Wildcats outscored the Tigers 16-to-11 off turnovers. FVSU hit 34-points to MHC's 22 points in the paint.
 
MHC hit their first five points in the first half before FVSU's Fosters' jumper cut the score to 2-5 at the 19:19 mark. The Tigers then went on a 7-0 run to increase the score to 12-2. Hollaway's jumper cut the lead to 8 (4-12). Then, Barnes layup followed by Bryant's three-point basket made the score 27-31. With 34 seconds until to halftime, FVSU's Foster made a free throw to send the Wildcats to intermission down 28-31.
 
In the second half, Foster's jumper cut the lead to 34-35 with 17:18 to go. At the 16:21 mark, Edwards' layup tied the game at 37-37 and a free throw later gave the Wildcats the 42-41 advantage. Neither team would get more than a six-point lead the rest of the way as teams would tie the game eight times and the lead changed eight times. With 1:54 left, FVSU held a 5 point 70-65 lead but the Tigers would make a layup and three-pointer to tie at 70-70 with 1:03 to go in the game. MHC's Martravious Little hit the final two free throws to complete the 72-70 score.
 
FVSU will host Clark Atlanta University on Monday, January 15th at 8 p.m.
