Tigers Block Past Wildcats Volleyball

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Despite having an early second set lead, the Wildcats could not turn the tide Friday night. Benedict College registered 14 team blocks and took a straight-set match, 3-0, from Fort Valley State.
 
After falling 25-14 in the first set, the Wildcats (3-12/2-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) held an early 8-4 lead in set two. The Tigers (10-7/5-3 SIAC) battled back with the next four points and seven of the next eight for the 25-21 win. Benedict never trailed the rest of the match as it took set three, 25-15.
 
Nia Bell posted a double-double to lead FVSU with 10 kills and 10 digs. Rita Davis added 20 assists, five digs and a pair of block assists.
 
India King chipped in five kills and four total blocks, while Nia Thomas had four kills and nine digs. Ashaunti Brown added four kills.
 
V'Aira Harris led Benedict with 14 kills.
 
FVSU has the weekend off before it continues at home in a Tuesday night, Oct. 9, match against Clark Atlanta starting at 6 p.m.
