DI Trojans Handle Wildcats in Men’s Basketball Exhibition

TROY, Ala. – A tough Wildcat test is in the books. NCAA Division I Troy University used three runs in the final 10 minutes of the first half to gain separation from a game Fort Valley State team in a 95-60 men's basketball final Tuesday night.
 
The Wildcats Aaron Edwards drained the opening 3-pointer, Thomas Hardy added a layup for a 5-4 lead and a D'Angelo Strickland trey kept it a one-point difference, 9-8, in the opening 6:20. The Trojans made their first 8-0 run and extended it to 15-1 over four-minute period to a 24-11 and closed the first 20 minutes on another 8-0 spurt.
 
Senior Jaylon McMillan paced the FVSU effort with 18 points, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.
 
Newcomers Tarrence Evans, Shawn Foxbrennen and Edwards contributed nine, eight and eight points on the night. Evans made 4 of 6 from the field, Foxbrennen had a team-high six rebounds and Edwards a pair of treys.
 
K'Viontae Williams chipped in six points, five boards and dished the team's lone three assists. Center Levi Griffin had four points and three caroms.
 
Troy's Alex Hicks led all scorers with 19 points.
 
FVSU begins its games, which count, on Friday night. The Wildcats face the Argonauts of the University of West Florida in a 5 p.m. tip-off of the Gulf South Conference/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge held at Albany State.
