Slow Start Dooms Wildcats in Opener Against Argonauts

ALBANY, Ga. – Falling behind in the opening four minutes, Fort Valley State could not recover Friday night against West Florida, 77-56, in the men's basketball season opener played at Albany State.
 
The Argonauts (1-0) raced out to a 14-4 score in the game's first 3:38 and never gave up the advantage. The Wildcats (0-1) pulled to within nine points, 37-28, with a minute left in the first half, but they could get no closer.
 
K'Viontae Williams came off the bench to pump in a team-high 20 points on 7 of 11 from the floor and 4 of 7 from long-range. He added eight rebounds and three assists.
 
Shawn Foxbrennen chipped in 12 points and grabbed 10 boards for a double-double. Tarrence Evans added nine points and four assists, while Dexter Williams hauled in nine rebounds.
 
West Florida put six players in double figures in a balanced attack with Rashaan Benson leading with 17 points.
 
FVSU returns to action on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 10, in a 2 p.m. contest against Valdosta State in the second day of the Gulf South Conference/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Challenge.
