Wildcats Start Strong, but Rattlers Take Men’s Basketball Exhibition

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Wildcats were able to start strong Wednesday night as they moved up a competition level. Fort Valley State could not continue its early success as Florida A&M struck back for the men's basketball exhibition victory, 80-58.

Shawn Foxbrennen helped FVSU run out to a 6-0 lead in the opening two minutes with an inside layup and trey. The Rattlers ran off 16-straight points as their answer, but the Wildcats would not go away and were within three points, 19-16, on a Thomas Hardy layup with 6:25 in the first half. FVSU held the margin to 12 points three times midway through the second 20 minutes, before FAMU pulled away in the final minutes.

Jaylon McMillan downed a trio of 3-pointers as part of his team-high 17-point night to go with nine rebounds and two steals. Hardy would have his season-high if the game counted for the Wildcats as he hit for 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting. Foxbrennen chipped in 12 points on 5 of 9 from the floor and pulled down six boards.

Justin Ravenel paced Florida A&M with 20 points via six 3-pointers.

FVSU returns to games, which count, on Saturday afternoon in a 3 p.m. road game at Carson-Newman.
