Box Score 2 FORT VALLEY, GA – The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) softball team swept a doubleheader over Wesleyan College 4-1 and 8-5 Saturday, to push their win streak to four games at Wildcat Field on FVSU's campus.
The Lady Wildcats took both games in seven innings behind a 4-for-7 day at the plate by
Courtney Walker and three RBI's while
Keteria Loney and Ashley Simmon-Blair added two-run each.
FVSU's overall record improves to 4-2 on the season while Wesleyan's record dropped to 2-4.
Game one:
The Lady Wildcats did not get on the scoreboard until the third inning when
Shakerra Geter walked and Walker singled Geter over to second. Loney 's doubled scored Geter for the first run. (1-0)
In the fourth, Wesleyan score their one run then FVSU would collect three runs of their own.
Marlayzha Crutchfield walked,
Tyanna Askew was hit by a pitch and
Micah Sheppard walked to load the bases. Simmon-Blair singled Crutchfield home. Askew and Sheppard later scored on wild pitches. (4-1).
Courtney Walker (3-2) picked up the win while striking out nine batters, allowing four hits and no earned runs allowed. Valerie Clower (0-1) got the loss for Wesleyan.
Game two:
The Wolves scored a run in the first inning and FVSU added two runs in the second off
Audrianna Noel's single,
Tyanna Askew was hit by a pitch and both later scored on wild pitches. (2-1)
Both teams would add three runs apiece in the fifth and the Wildcats closed out the scoring in the six with another three runs.
Walker (4-2) won her fourth game of the season while giving up four hits and five runs (one earned) along with five strikeouts.
FVSU will host Talladega College in a doubleheader on Thursday, February 27 at 1 and 3 p.m.
