FVSU LADY WILDCATS WIN DOUBLEHEADER OVER WESLEYAN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT VALLEY, GA – After coming off a 1-3 game road trip last week at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Crossover Tournament in Jasper, AL., the Lady Wildcats (8-9) Softball Team returned home to play Wesleyan College (6-21) a doubleheader. Fort Valley State picked up two wins over Wesleyan Wednesday by a score of 11-10 in game one and 9-6 in game two at Wildcat Field on FVSU's campus.
 
Freshman pitcher Courtney Walker (8-8) went the distance in both games for the wins while allowing two earned runs (10), three walks, two strikeouts and 16 hits in game one. Walker gave up five earned runs (6), one walk and 16 hits in game two.
 
FVSU came away in game one with 18 hits and 11 runs.  Freshman shortstop Tyanna Askew led the way with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, scoring twice and adding an RBI, sophomore outfielder Marlayzha Crutchfield and Walker posted three hits apiece. Crutchfield scored three times and drove in a run. Sophomore's Ashley Simmons-Blair, Shakerra Geter, and freshman Audriannal Noel added two hit each. Noel drove in three runs while Simmons-Blair and Geter had one RBI each. Sophomore's Keteria Loney and Brianna Jackson each added a hit.
 
The Wildcats scored two runs in the third inning on singles by Crutchfield and Noel, as Walker's double scored Crutchfield and Noel (2-0). Wesleyan tied the game at 2-2 in the top half of the fourth. The Wolves went on to attach four more runs in the fifth inning, two in the six innings and a final two runs in the seventh to give Wesleyan a 10-2 advantage.
 
The Wildcats punched three runs across in the bottom half of the six to close the gap to five runs (5-10). FVSU took the challenge into the bottom half of the seventh inning and plated six runs for the 11-10 win.
 
Loney started the seventh inning off with a single then advanced to second on a wild pitch, Jackson walked and advanced to third on Askew's double that scored Loney (6-10). Destiny McIntyre walked and advanced the second on a wild pitch, moving Askew over to third with Jackson scoring (7-10). Crutchfield and Simmons-Blair both doubled driving in Askew and McIntyre to cut the lead to one (9-10). Noel's reached first base on an error and advanced to second base on the throw as Crutchfield scored to tie the game (10-10). Geter's single drove in Simmon-Blair for the win (11-10).   
 
In game two, sophomore outfielder Brianna Jackson led the Wildcats at the plate with a 3-for-4 day. Sophomore outfielder Ashley Simmons-Blair, freshman's Audeianna Noel, Courtney Walker and Tyanna Askew added two hits apiece. Sophomore catcher Shakerra Geter and freshman outfielder Armani Alderman had a hit each. Walker and Askew posted two RBI's apiece.
 
The Wolves jumped out early in game two with a run in the first inning, another two runs in the third and three more runs in the fourth for a 6-0 lead.
 
The Wildcats put the bats to work for the comeback by plating eight runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning (8-6) and a final run in the six (9-6). Simmons-Blair, Noel, and Walker all singled to lead off the fourth as Simmons-Blair on Walker's hit. Geter reached base by being hit at the plate and Loney reached on an error to score Noel. Askew doubled in Geter and Walker to cut the lead to two. Alderman signed scoring Loney and Simmons-Blair singled in Alderman. Noel's reach base on a fielder's choice and went to second on an error to scored Crutchfield for the 8-6 lead.
Noel led off the six innings with a single, then went to second on a passed ball. Walker completed the scoring with single that scored Noel (9-6).
 
The Wildcats next games are conference games with Paine College on March 23rd -24th in Augusta, GA. The 23rd game is a single game at 4 p.m. and they play a doubleheader on the 24th with the games scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
