Box Score AUGUSTA, GA – The Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Lady Wildcats Softball team picked up where they left off on Wednesday by defeating the Lady Lions of Paine College 14-4 in game one of a three-game series Friday evening at Lucy Laney Stadium.
The Wildcats improve their overall record to 9-9 and 3-5 in the SIAC while the Lady Lions dropped to 2-8 and 0-8 in conference play.
Freshman
Armani Alderman led the Lady Wildcats with four RBI's, one hit and scored a run while sophomore
Brianna Jackson followed with two RBI's and two hits. Freshman
Audrianna Noel had two hits and sophomore
Keteria Loney added a hit, scored twice and drove in a run. Sophomore's
Marlayzha Crutchfield and
Ashley Simmons-Blair each had a hit while Crutchfield crossed the plate twice and Simmons-Blair one time. Freshman
Courtney Walker picked up a hit, one RBI and scored once. Freshman's
Tyanna Askew and
Destiny McIntyre scored two-time apiece,
Carmen Ralls scored once and Askew plated another run. Sophomore
Shakerra Geter finished the scoring by driving final run.
Walker picked up the win to improve to 9-8 while going four and a half innings, allowing two hits, zero runs, and striking out eight. Geter gave up four earned runs on four hits and had one strikeout.
The Lady Wildcats scored five runs on three hits in the first inning with Crutchfield, Simmons-Blair, Walker, Jackson, and Loney scoring (5-0). In the second inning, FVSU scored another run and one more in the third (7-0). The team plated six more runs in the top half of the fourth inning to make the score (13-0).
The Lady Lions picked up their four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning (13-4).
FVSU added their final run in the fifth (14-4)
The two teams will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader with game one starting at 1 p.m. and the second game shortly after game one.
