Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, GA – Freshman
Courtney Walker tossed two shutout conference games for the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) softball team as they swept a three-game series over Paine College (PC) Saturday afternoon 10-0 and 9-0 at Lucy Laney Stadium.
FVSU improved to 11-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play, while the Lady Lions fell to 2-10 overall and 0-10 in SIAC action.
Game one, freshman's
Tyanna Askew and
Armani Alderman had three RBI's apiece while Askew scored a run and Alderman added a hit. Sophomore's
Shakerra Geter and
Keteria Loney each scored twice with Geter having two hits and Loney a hit.
Game two, Sophomore
Shakerra Geter went 2-for-2 at the plate, driving in three RBI's and scored to lead the Lady Wildcats. Sophomore
Ashley Simmons-Blair had two hit and scored a run,freshman
Audrianna Noel crossed the plate three times and sophomore
Marlayzha Crutchfield adds two RBI's.
Walker (11-9) completed 11 innings on the day, throwing a no-hitter in game one after five innings on the mound and striking out nine batters. Game two six innings and allowed five hits and collected eight strikeouts.
In game one, FVSU scored three runs in the first inning off singles by Crutchfield and Geter (3-0). They picked up another four runs in the top half of the third inning after a Walker double and a single by
Armani Alderman (7-0). The Lady Wildcats final three runs crossed the plate in the fourth as Loney singled and the Lady Lions committed an error (10-0).
FVSU collected nine runs on nine hits in game two for the win. The Lady Wildcats led off the game with three runs and a hit by Loney and three Lady Lion errors (3-0). In the fourth, the team scored two runs on three hits from Noel, Walker, and Geter (5-0). FVSU added another two runs in the fifth off singles from Simmons-Blair and Geter (7-0). The Lady Wildcats completed the scoring with two runs in the six as
Brianna Jackson singled and Crutchfield tripled (9-0). The Lady Wildcats final three runs crossed the plate in the fourth with Loney's single and the Lady Lions committed an error (10-0).
