Box Score The Lady Wildcats split a double-header with the Tigers of Benedict University this afternoon on the FVSU campus. The series between the two teams is pivotal because it will help decide if the Wildcats make the SIAC playoffs.
The first game was dominated by the Wildcats. Their bats backed up the pitching of
Courtney Walker who was solid off the mound throwing 9 strikeouts and only 1 earned run. The Wildcats went up in the second inning when
Keteria Loney,
Audrianna Noel and
Armani Alderman got hits and put the Wildcats ahead in the game with four runs. Benedict responded with two runs in the next inning but the Wildcats put up five runs on five hits by
Brianna Jackson,
Audrianna Noel,
Marlayzha Crutchfield,
Courtney Walker and
Keteria Loney to go up 7-2.
Benedict scored three runs in the sixth inning and tried to make a run but the Wildcats were up to the task and capped the scoring with two more runs off of hits by
Shakerra Geter,
Marlayzha Crutchfield and
Keteria Loney in their half of the sixth to clinch the game with a final score of 11-5.
The second was a pitchers dual that unfortunately didn't get started until after a few errors by the Wildcats in the first inning provided the Tigers of Benedict with two runs. Those runs were enough for the victory as the second pitcher of the day for the Tigers of Benedict University was able to keep the Wildcats from scoring but one run. That one run was scored by
Tyanna Askew in the bottom of the fifth inning after she singled and came home after a couple of Tiger errors
The third and now most important game of the season for both of these teams vying for the last and final spot in the playoffs from the Eastern Division is set for Tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Wildcat field.
