Wildcats Take Tigers to Limit in Busy SIAC Crossover Day One

ALBANY, Ga. – Trailing by two sets in the opening match, the Wildcats rallied to even the match only to fall short in five. Fort Valley could not complete the five-set comeback as Miles College took the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover volleyball match, 3-2. Tuskegee and Kentucky State added straight sets victories over FVSU in the rest of a busy first day.

Following 17-25 and 21-25 sets to open the day, the Wildcats (2-7) came back with decisive third (25-15) and fourth (25-21) sets. The Tigers came back for the match-deciding fifth set, 15-10.

Having to play one of the top SIAC West teams right away, Tuskegee defeated FVSU, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20 and 25-16). After a one-match rest, Fort Valley State fell short against Kentucky State by the same 3-0 final in sets of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.

Nia Bell posted the top outing with 15 kills against Miles and 21 in two matches played. India King added 10 winners against Miles and a team-high six versus Tuskegee.

Rita Davis handed out a Friday best 29 assists in the Miles match, while Ashley Simmon-Blair and Nia Thomas added 19 and 16 digs.

FVSU comes back for another pair of SIAC matches on Friday with an 11 a.m. bout against Lane College and then a 5 p.m. match versus Central State.
