Savannah State Uses Runs to Take FVSU in Straight Sets

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Following a tough five-set home Tuesday match, the Wildcats had a tough road match against a team finding its conference groove. Savannah State used runs in each set and took away a straight sets, 3-0, win over the Fort Valley State volleyball team.
 
In a close 15-14 opening set, the Tigers (6-10/5-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) rattled off the next 10 points for a 25-14 final. FVSU led 7-5 and late in set two, 20-19, but saw SSU net the final six points for a 25-20 total. The Tigers held a 15-10 advantage before they scored the next six for an 11-point lead of the eventual 25-16 match-ending set score.
 
Nia Bell had top Wildcats honors with eight kills and seven digs. Rita Davis added nine digs and six assists, while Ashley Simmons-Blair dug seven attacks. India Kina downed four kills, three in set two, while Shantrila Mosley dished three assists and QuiAndra Moore had two digs.
 
Imani Williamson's double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs led SSU.
 
FVSU will stay on the road for a Tuesday night, Oct. 15, contest at Albany State in a 6 p.m. start.
