Panthers Storm Back to Clip Wildcats in Five

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The night started hot for the Wildcats Tuesday night, but it ended as cold as the HPE Arena temperature. Fort Valley State raced out to a two-set lead only to see Clark Atlanta storm back to take the next three volleyball sets and the match, 3-2.
 
The Wildcats (3-9/2-8 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) built a seven-point opening set lead on the way to a 25-15 win and they followed it with a strong set two finish, 25-21. The Panthers (3-7/2-7 SIAC East) ran off a late third set run and started the fourth set with a 9-2 advantage in set scores of 25-20 and 25-14. CAU took a 7-4 lead into the fifth set turn and held on for a 15-8 match victory.
 
India King and Nia Bell paced the FVSU attack with 16 and 14 kills. King added three block assists and Bell completed a double-double with 17 digs and two blocks. Ashaunti Brown chipped in eight kills and six total blocks.
 
Rita Davis handed out 30 assists to go with six digs, two blocks and an ace. Ashley Simmons-Blair dug 13 attacks. Jaelyn Franklin added two aces, eight digs, two blocks and an assist.
 
Lauryn Terry led the Panthers with 15 kills.
 
FVSU moves on the road in a Friday night, October 11, match at Savannah State starting at 7 p.m.
