Wildcats Storm Past Hawks

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – It was a Wildcats performance the team needed. Fort Valley State established a lead early, extended it in the second half and eased past Shorter University, 87-73, in men's basketball Thursday night.
 
A Gregory Holloway layup after a K'Viontae Williams steal capped an 8-0 spurt as the Wildcats (2-4) doubled up the Hawks (2-4), 23-11, in the opening 6:16. Shorter pulled back to within five points, 36-31, with 3:42 left in the first half, but a strong home finish pushed it back to a dozen. FVSU opened the second half on a Brenton Cliette Jordan dunk, built the margin to as many as 25 points three times and coasted home.  

Williams pumped in two treys on the Wildcats first two shots and he had the team's opening eight points and 15 at the half. The senior finished with a game-high 19 points. Shawn Foxbrennen recorded a solid 8 for 10 night for 18 points to go with seven rebounds.  

D'Angelo Strickland chipped in 10 points on 5-for-11 from the floor, while Malik Clark pumped in a trio of 3-pointers on six attempts for nine tallies.  

FVSU handed out 19 assists to 16 turnovers in the game and downed 10 3-pointers over 25 attempts.  
Shorter received 16 points by Jay Shropshire to lead its squad.  

FVSU will have a week off for the holiday before it hosts Lane College to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Nov. 30. Tip is set for 3 p.m.
