ROME, Ga. – The night before final turned out to not be one aced by the Wildcats Tuesday night. Five minutes into the contest, Shorter University went on a 12-2 run and answered each Fort Valley State comeback attempt in a 73-54 men's basketball final.

Following a FVSU (3-7) trey from Tristan Davis 4:52 into the contest, Shorter (3-6) traded made jump shots, before it netted 10 points in a row for a 23-8 advantage. The Wildcats pull within eight points, 27-19, in the first half and equaled it two times (37-29 and 39-31) in the first three second-half minutes, but the Hawks held the visitors off from getting even a point closer.

With the win, Shorter evened the first semester season series. FVSU won on its home floor, 87-73, on Nov. 21.

K'Viontae Williams paced the FVSU offense with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go with three rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

Shawn Foxbrennen fell short by a rebound of his fourth double-double in as many games with 11 tallies and nine boards. Brenton Cliette Jordan added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Tristan Davis had seven points.

FVSU committed 19 turnovers and Shorter outscored its visitors bench production 34-4 in points.

Ja'Cori Wilson led all scorers with 24 points for the Hawks.

FVSU has almost a week off for finals before it travels to Tuskegee for an 8:30 p.m. EST matchup next Monday night, Dec. 16.
