Tuskegee Wins Final Minute, Edges FVSU Men’s Basketball

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Two strong runs proved to be not quite enough for the Wildcats Monday night. Fort Valley State started strong in the opening 10 minutes and battled back into the lead only to see host Tuskegee win the final minute for the 66-62 men's basketball finish.

FVSU (3-8/1-2 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) rallied from 14 points down with 16 minutes left and recaptured its early advantage with 4:50 showing on the clock. Tied at 59, the Golden Tigers (6-5/2-1 SIAC West) used a three-point play with 32 seconds and two pairs of good foul shots for needed points for the win.

Coming off the FVSU bench, Shawn Foxbrennen dropped 20 points on 8-of-13 attempts to go with six rebounds. K'Viontae Williams had his second all-around game in Tuskegee of 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals after he had a career-high 25 points last December on the same court.

Brenton Cliette Jordan added seven points and seven rebounds, while Zachary Boggs connected on two 3-pointers, including one with 13 seconds to give the Wildcats one final hope.

James Eads pumped in five long-range attempts for a game-best 25-point night to lead the Golden Tigers.

The Wildcats started the night with eight-straight points after each team netted an opening bucket for a 10-2 lead off two Williams triples. The FVSU lead grew to 14 points, 18-4, after Williams and Foxbrennen had back-to-back layups. Tuskegee finished the opening 20 minutes by outscoring FVSU, 23-10, for a 37-28 lead.

FVSU completes its December home schedule with a Thursday night, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m. contest against LeMoyne-Owen College.
