Hurricanes Prevail over Wildcats Men’s Basketball

AMERICUS, Ga. – Home teams typically shoot better and the Wildcats experienced this against them Monday night. Solloman Thomas and Georgia Southwestern seemed like they could not miss from long range and prevailed over Fort Valley State, 89-62, in men's basketball.
 
The Hurricanes (5-0) downed five 3-pointers in the first seven minutes and opened a 20-12 lead over the Wildcats (2-6). Georgia Southwestern continued to double up FVSU's output to 29-14 midway through the first half and held a 49-29 halftime advantage. The Wildcats' Andrew Ziegler and Jacobi Coleman netted two points apiece in the first three minutes of the second 20 minutes, before the Hurricanes ran off a 10-2 spurt and never allowed the visitors back in the game.
 
Shawn Foxbrennen hit 8-of-12 shots from the floor for 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and his second double-double in a row to lead the Wildcats. K'Viontae Williams added nine points, six boards and five assists. Levi Griffin contributed a career-best seven points, while Brenton Cliette Jordan also hit for seven tallies.
 
Thomas drained 8 of 13 long-range attempts and went 10-for-15 overall for 31 points for Georgia Southwestern.
 
FVSU has Tuesday off before it hosts SIAC West member Central State on Wednesday night, Dec. 4, in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
