Albany State Uses Pair of First-Half Runs to Defeat FVSU

ALBANY, Ga. – In a packed field house, the Wildcats were unable to swing the momentum of the game against the hostile energy. Albany State used a pair of first-half runs and defeated Fort Valley State, 72-61, in Saturday night men's basketball.
 
Following a Jaylon McMillan triple to make it a three-point difference three minutes into the game, the Wildcats (7-21/6-11 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) offense went
dry as the Golden Rams (13-13/12-5 SIAC) ran off the next 12 points. De'Angelo Strickland's jumper cut the visitors' deficit back to 10-points, 27-17, before Albany State scored the next 10 tallies, The closest the Wildcats pulled to within in the second half was the final score.
 
McMillan downed five treys and netted a game-best 23 points to go with four assists. Despite being in foul trouble, Shawn Foxbrennen posted 12 points and grabbed nine boards. Strickland
completed, the visiting double-digit players with 10 points and added six rebounds.
 
Jared Harrington had top ASU honors with 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting.
 
FVSU will now have over a week off until it opens at the SIAC Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, Feb. 25, at a time and opponent to be announced.
