Wildcats Slug Way to Split Against Wolves

MACON, Ga. – The Wildcats slugged their way to 27 hits and hit in key late game opportunities. After one rough inning resulted in a 7-2 opening loss, Fort Valley State scored multiple runs in four frames and earned a split with an 11-6 late-contest victory at Wesleyan College Friday afternoon.

Leading 3-2 in the home fourth, the Wolves (3-1) plated four two-out runs and held the Wildcats (3-5) scoreless in the final three innings of game one. FVSU opened the late contest with three runs in its first at bat and received two-RBI hits from Ashley Simmons-Blair and Kayla Brown in the fifth and sixth innings for the winning game two
cushion.

The Wildcats saw four players register three or more hits of their 27-hit attack. The offensive success started at the top of the order where Tanami Owens and Simmons-Blair went a combined 11 for 18 with four runs and four RBI. Simmons-Blair finished 6 for 9 with 4 RBI and a double and Owens scored three times.

Brown, Shakerra Geter, and Ladayshia Williams added three hits apiece. Brown doubled, drove in three runs and swiped a base, Geter doubled in game one and Williams scored twice and had an RBI.
Keteria Loney, Alera Buie and Aliyah Speight rounded out the multi-hit Wildcats with two each.

FVSU goes back on the road on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 23, for a
twinbill at Georgia Southwestern starting at 1 p.m.
