Wildcats Can’t Hold Game Two Lead, Fall to Barons

2/26/2019 8:36:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – After an opening slow start, the Wildcats could not keep the lead for a potential split. Following a tough 12-0 first game, Fort Valley State saw its one-run lead be erased in the late contest and fell, 5-2, at Brewton-Parker College on Tuesday afternoon.

Tanami Owens doubled to lead-off the opener, but the Wildcats (3-9) were unable to bring her home. The Barons (4-8) pushed across six scores in both the third and fourth frames and did not allow
another visitors hit for the 12-0 five-inning game one.

Jahara Buggs and Aliyah Speight lined back-to-back singles in the top of the fourth to give FVSU a 2-1 lead in the late game. In the home fifth, the Barons took the lead with two runs and added two more unearned scores for a 5-2 lead. The Wildcats amounted only one hit in their last two at bats to end the twinbill.

Owens had the lone extra-base FVSU hit on the day. The Wildcats posted eight
game-two singles led by two each from Keterina Loney and Speight. Shakerra Geter, Ladayshia Williams, Ashley Simmons-Blair and Buggs had one apiece.

FVSU returns to Wildcat Field for a Friday afternoon, March 1, doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern starting at 1 p.m.
