No. 17 Morehouse Holds off FVSU Second-Half Upset Bid

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats cut points off an eight-point halftime deficit for the first nine minutes, but they could not full get over the mountain. After Fort Valley State tied the game with 11:32 left in the game, No. 17 Morehouse College ran off the next 11 points and held off the home team's upset bid, 63-50, on Monday night.
 
FVSU (6-19/5-9 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) chipped away and chipped away at its deficit until Shawn Foxbrennen downed a right-wing trey to bring the game to 40-40. The Wildcats turned over its next three possessions and the Maroon Tigers (17-3/11-3 SIAC) converted and started its 11-0. The home team put together one last charge as Brenton
Cliette Jordan downed a baseline jumper to make it 51-48 with 3:17 showing, but Morehouse netted the following nine points in the next two minutes.
 
K'Viontae Williams sliced through the Maroon Tigers defense for a game-high 19 points on 6 of 12 shooting to go with five steals and three rebounds.
Foxbrennen added 16 points on 5 of 9 attempts and grabbed seven boards. Cliette Jordan finished with eight tallies and four rebounds.
 
FVSU saw seniors Jaylon McMillan and Dexter Williams play their final game on the HPE Arena floor and both were honored at halftime.
 

Chibueze Ebinum paced the Morehouse effort with 14 points off the bench.
 
The Maroon Tigers led by as many as 12 points, 25-13, with just under five minutes in the first half, before the Wildcats took the margin down to 29-21 by intermission.
 
FVSU will travel next to Paine College on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 9, in a 4 p.m.
