Lane Rallies Past FVSU, Tuskegee Takes Afternoon Contest

3/16/2019 10:29:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JASPER, Ala. – On the second day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Crossover, Lane College rallied for a 9-7 victory and Tuskegee held Fort Valley State in check of a 7-0 decision in the Saturday afternoon contest.

After five third-inning Dragons run in the top of the frame, the Wildcats (4-12) powered to a lead with seven in the home half behind a Jahara Buggs two-run double and a Kayla Brown two-run single. Lane, though, plated three unearned runs in the top of the fifth and a seventh-inning insurance run for the win.

Following the Wildcats' Shakerra Geter and Sara Lann back-to-back hits in the fourth inning were stranded on base, the Maroon Tigers pounded out four hits and plated four runs in the home side of the inning. Tuskegee took advantage of FVSU errors in the fifth and sixth to add three more scores for the 7-0 final.

On the day, Geter had the hot FVSU bat with three of the team's 13 hits, including a double and a run.
Lann and Ashley Simmons-Blair both added a hit in each game with a run and one RBI. Buggs accounted for the other extra base hit with a first-game two-run double.

Ladayshia Williams went 2 for 3 in the opener, while Brown had two hits as well versus Lane with the two RBI. Janelle Cockerham lined the other hit on the day.

FVSU completes the three-day event with an 11 a.m.
game against Kentucky State and a 1:15 p.m. contest versus Lemoyne-Owen on Sunday.
