Wildcats Power Past Panthers, Take Softball Series

Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. – The young Wildcats may be starting to come together. Fort Valley State continued Saturday's second game run output with another outburst on Sunday to power past Clark Atlanta, 11-3, and win the three-game weekend softball series.
 
FVSU (7-14/4-5 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) saw Jahara Buggs laced a two-run triple as part of its first of three multiple-run at bats. Leading 4-1 in the top of the fifth with one out, Tanami Owens singled and Buggs was hit by a pitch, before Shakerra Geter doubled both home in the four-run frame. Pitcher Kayla Brown continued her surge in the circle as she fanned four in the last three innings and gave up two runs, one earned for the win.
 
Brown (6-2) claimed the two FVSU pitching wins for the weekend where she posted a 1.75 ERA over 12 innings with 13 strikeouts to only two walks. On Sunday, the freshman allowed two earned runs and six hits to go with seven strikeouts and a walk.
 
On the 17-
hit attack, the Wildcats had six multiple-hit players, each hitters have at least one hit, led by Ladayshia Williams' 3 for 4 day. Williams' pushed home a pair of seventh-inning insurance runs with a two-run triple to go with a pair of singles.
 
Geter was 2 for 3 with a two-run double and
a RBI sacrifice. Tanami Owens and Sara Lann both lined two singles and scored twice. Jenelle Cockerham and Ashley Simmons-Blair singled two times and each scored a run. Buggs sliced her two-run triple in the first, before she walked, stole second and scored a second run in the fifth. Tyanna Askew added two hits and Brown had one single.
 
FVSU returns home for only the second time next weekend when it host Paine College in the three-game set. On Saturday, March 30, the doubleheader will start at 2 p.m.
and Sunday's single game will have a 1 p.m. first pitch.
