Wildcats Strand Opportunities, Golden Rams Use Two Homers in Series Opener Win

ALBANY, Ga. – The Wildcats had runners in scoring position in three of the first innings, but they failed to bring any home. Albany State used a solo homer and a three-run shot to record a 5-0 softball game one win over Fort Valley State Friday night.

After stranding Jahara Buggs at second in the first, FVSU (13-19/7-9 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference), Albany State (14-27/11-2 SIAC) took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run.
Ladayshia Williams lined a double to left to lead off the third and moved to third on Tyanna Askew's ground out, but she was left there with two outs in the next three batters.

The Golden Rams' Lavette Tucker belted a three-run
homer in the third for a 4-0 margin. The Wildcats saw Keteria Loney slice a leadoff double to right field and she moved to third on a Kayla Brown infield single with one out. Albany State, though, retired the next two FVSU hitters and started 11-straight to be retired over the last 3.2 innings.

Williams and Loney doubled, while Marlayzha Crutchfield and Brown added singles for the four FVSU hits.
Buggs walked and stole a base.

FVSU completes its three-game series on Saturday afternoon
in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Albany State.
