Wildcats Fall Short of More Places on SIAC Championship Final Day

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On the final day of action, the Fort Valley State competitors fell short of adding more place winners at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships.

The Wildcats saw all three of Camille Saunders, Vincent Buckley and Barry McSwain come up one spot short of their individual event podiums each in ninth places.

In the team standings, both the FVSU squads finished in ninth places with the men at 20 points and women at 19 points. Benedict College won both crowns with a 91-point cushion on the women's side and a 55-point one in the men's field.

Buckley threw 32.58 meters in the hammer throw for ninth and only four-tenths of a meter from eighth. He was also 14 the javelin with a distance of 33.05 meters.

In the men's high jump, McSwain leaped to 1.60 meters for ninth, a tenth behind the eighth place finisher.

Saunders posted a best throw of 28.48 meters for ninth in the women's hammer throw.

Cook-Pirtle was the final Wildcat to compete on Saturday as she went 9.56 meters through the air for 12 in the women's triple jump.
