Wildcats Volleyball Late Surge Not Enough in Home Opener

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In front of a good Tuesday night crowd, the Wildcats rallied late in the third set, but it proved to not be enough. Albany State held on and posted the straight-sets victory, 3-0, over Fort Valley State in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball opener.

Down 2-0 in the match, FVSU (0-2/0-1 SIAC East) rallied from behind 21-14 with six-straight points to force a Albany State (2-0/1-0 SIAC East) time out at 21-20. The Golden Rams closed out the match with the next four points out of the break in action for the 25-20 final, after they took the first two sets (25-17, 25-11).

India King led the home offense with eight kills to go with two digs and two blocks. Rita Davis and Shantrila Mosley ran the offense with seven assists apiece.

Jaelyn Franklin dug seven attacks, downed four kills and lined an ace. Ashley Simmons-Blair chipped in six digs.

Jannai Cheeks paced Albany State with 12 kills and a .476 attack percentage.

FVSU stays at home in a 7 p.m. Friday night, Sept. 13, non-conference match against Brewton-Parker.
