Clark Atlanta Edges FVSU in Men’s Hoops

ATLANTA, Ga. – A tale of two halves on the men's basketball court Saturday. Clark Atlanta had the better of the two half in the final 20 minutes and edged Fort Valley State, 68-81.
 
The Wildcats (3-12/1-5 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) used a big surge of 36-8 in the final 12:42 of the first half and held a 41-27 intermission advantage. The Panthers (7-9/7-1 SIAC East) rebounded in the second stanza and erased a 10-point deficit in the final 12 minutes and held off the visitors.
 
K'Viontae Williams netted 12 of his team-high 18 points for FVSU in the first half. He also grabbed seven rebounds to go with a pair of assists and two steals. Shawn Foxbrennen added 12 points and seven boards, while Gregory Holloway had eight points off the bench.
 
FVSU connected on over 57% in the first half (16 of 28) to build its lead, before it made only 6-of-26 second-half tries (23%).
 
Clark Atlanta was paced by 17 points from both Tyler Singleton and Elijah Stewart.
 
The Wildcats turned a 19-15 deficit into a nine-point lead, 28-19, on a 13-0 run, which was capped by a Holloway 3-pointer. The visitors continued its run by outscoring the Panthers, 26-8, in the final eight minutes.
 
With 12:45 left, Clark Atlanta trailed by 10 points, before it scored 12 of the next 14 points to tie the game at 54 with 6:54. The Panthers took its first second-half lead at 57-56 with 4:45. A 3-pointer sealed the win for CAU at 2:44 to make it 62-58 after FVSU had pulled back to within a point 46 seconds earlier.
 
FVSU returns to the HPE Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 14th, against Miles College. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
