Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Furious Comeback Fall Just Short Against Golden Bears

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With three seconds left, a Wildcats game-tying, long 3-pointer fell off the back of the iron. The Fort Valley State furious comeback in the final two minutes fell just short as Miles College hung on for the 71-67 men's basketball victory Tuesday night.

Trailing by 14 points with 1:45 remaining, the Wildcats (3-13/1-6 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) cut the margin in half, 67-60, in the next minute on an Andrew Ziegler inside put back. After one Golden Bears (10-3/5-2 SIAC West) free throw, Tristen Davis made an acrobatic fastbreak layup at 35 seconds and then Shawn Foxbrennen stole the lone inbounds pass and found Zachary Boggs on the right wing for the triple to pull within three, 68-65, with 28 seconds left. Following two free throws by both teams in the next 11 seconds, the final FVSU attempt by Kenneth Franklin went long and enabled Miles to escape.

Boggs came off the home bench to lead the effort with 12 points, all in the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers. Davis was the other Wildcat in double digits with 10 points to go with three assists. Ebon Jay and Ziegler had solid nights off the FVSU bench with seven points apiece and five and three rebounds.

Miles' Avery Brown pumped in 12 first-half and 14 second-half tallies for 26 points to lead all scorers.

After a tight, low-scoring first 20 minutes, FVSU pulled to within two points, 26-24, 1:06 into the second half on a D'Angelo Strickland layup. The Golden Bears took control from there with a 12-0 run and held a lead of no less than eight points until the big Wildcats late comeback.

FVSU remains at home where it hosts SIAC East member Savannah State on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18th, in a 3 p.m. tip-off.
