FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The late game bug bit the Wildcats again on Saturday. After the game was tied for the 13^th time in the game, Savannah State netted the next four points and edged out Fort Valley State in a close men's basketball affair, 82-77.

Following a D'Angelo Strickland 3-pointer and a K'Viontae Williams jumper, the Wildcats (3-14/1-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) held a 69-64 lead with 6:44 to go. The Tigers (2-8/2-5 SIAC East) ran off the next nine tallies for a 73-69 advantage with 2:52 on the clock. FVSU pulled to within two, 73-71, on a pair of Andrew Ziegler free throws at 2:19, but Savannah State refused to give up the lead in the final two minutes.

Strickland totaled his career-high with 22 points on 9-for-11 from the floor and eight rebounds. Williams added 14 points and Brenton Cliette Jordan hit for 13 points of his own.

Marcus Scott led four Tigers in double figures with 25 points, including five treys.

Tied at 38 in the first half, Cliette Jordan and Ziegler netted buckets in the final minute and helped FVSU take a 42-39 lead into the intermission.

The Wildcats led by as many as six points twice, 60-54 and 62-56, midway through the second half.

FVSU travels to Spring Hill College on Wednesday night, Jan. 22, to complete its SIAC crossover games. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m. EST.
