AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Wildcats claimed their second straight win for the first time this season. Fort Valley State men's basketball posted a strong first half, before it held on against Paine College, 75-73, for the Saturday victory.

The Wildcats (5-15/3-8 SIAC East) came out shooting hot as they made six-of-11 3-pointers in the opening half and 20-of-32 attempts overall to take a 47-32 lead to intermission. The home Lions (2-15/2-10 SIAC East) reversed the score in the second stanza and outscored the visitors, 41-28, but proved to just fall shy of enough in the end.

The FVSU victory gives it the first win streak of the year with the second win in a row after an upset victory at Albany State last Saturday night.

Shawn Foxbrennen was hot from long-range as he downed a career-best five 3-pointers in nine attempts and 6-for-11 overall for 18 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. K'Viontae Williams finished the other FVSU double-figure scorer in a balanced attack with 15 points, four assists and three steals.

Point guard Tristan Davis contributed nine tallies on 4-of-6 shooting, five boards and three helpers. D'Angelo Strickland and Kenneth Franklin chipped in seven points apiece.

Bryce Latimer led Paine College with 19 points.

FVSU will have just one day off before traveling to Columbia, SC and face Benedict College on Monday night, Feb. 3, with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
