Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Comeback Runs out of Time Against Maroon Tigers

ATLANTA, Ga. – With all the late momentum, the Wildcats needed another minute Monday night. Behind by double-digits for almost 21 of the middle minutes, the Fort Valley State men's basketball comeback run ran out of time as Morehouse College hung on for the 72-68 decision.

Trailing 56-40 with 13:39 left, FVSU (6-19/4-12 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) buried a trio of triples with two from Zachary Boggs and the third from Shawn Foxbrennen for the first time under a 10-point margin. Morehouse (11-11/8-7 SIAC East) held the visitors to no closer than nine points until the final three minutes. FVSU cut the difference down to five and then to four, 67-63, on a D'Angelo Strickland layup, but Boggs' third 3-pointer in the final seconds only equaled the same margin at the final horn.

Foxbrennen led the FVSU charge with 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and nine rebounds.  Freshman Tristan Davis had one of his best games of the year with 3-of-6 field goals and 8-of-9 foul shots for 14 points and six assists. K'Viontae Williams added 12 points and five boards. Both Strickland and Boggs chipped in nine points apiece.

FVSU was able to make the second-half run by improving its field goal percentage from 37 to 57.7% in the last 20 minutes. The Wildcats also edge out the rebound advantage, 32-29.

Robert Andrews was on fire from long-range with 8 treys in 10 tries for 29 tallies to pace the Maroon Tigers.

FVSU stays on the road for a Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, contest at Savannah State. Tip set for 3 p.m.
