FVSU Prevails in Double Overtime Thriller Against Clark Atlanta

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats took every punch from their visitors and had the last one of the night of their own. With 5.2 seconds left in double overtime, Shawn Foxbrennen's two free throws gave Fort Valley State an 82-80 double overtime men's basketball victory over Clark Atlanta.
 
In a game where the largest second-half margin was six points, Foxbrennen downed a pair of free throws with 59.2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 65. A Clark Atlanta (12-17/12-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) 3-pointer and two K'Viontae Williams jump shot in the final 10 seconds fell off to force the extra basketball. In the first overtime, a Brenton Cliette Jordan tip in with 0.8 left tied the contest at 73-73 to force a second overtime.

Turning to the second extra frame, Shannon Smith downed a left-corner triple for the Panthers with 22 seconds left to edge ahead, 80-79. Williams made 1-of-2 free throws with 9.1 seconds left for the 11th tie of the game and Foxbrennen grabbed the rebound, was fouled on the inside and made the two free throws for the game-deciding points.
 
Williams and Foxbrennen combined for 52 of the Wildcats' (7-20/5-13 SIAC East) 82 points on 19-of-33 shooting, including 4-of-8 from long-range. Williams accounted for 28 points and made it a double-double with 10 rebounds and also five assists. Foxbrennen finished with 24 points, including 6-of-7 from the foul line, and nine boards.
 
Zachary Boggs added 13 points with a trio of treys, while D'Angelo Strickland had eight points.
 
Smith and Romaine Thomas both scored 20 points in the Clark Atlanta effort.
 
FVSU outrebounded the taller CAU squad, 54-45, but it committed seven more turnovers.
 
FVSU completes its regular season with a Thursday night, Feb. 27, contest against Morehouse College. The 'Senior Night' affair will tip at 7:30 p.m.
