FVSU Edged in Final Minutes by Benedict

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were unable to give the home fans a win on Saturday afternoon. Fort Valley State was edged in the last four minutes by Benedict College in a 68-62 men's basketball final.

The Wildcats (5-17/3-10 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) more than doubled a five-point halftime lead into a 13-point margin, 52-39, with 10:22 of the second half. The Tigers (11-12/7-6 SIAC East), though, put together a 14-0 run over the next 6:30 for a 53-52 lead. After a pair of K'Viontae Williams free throws briefly gave FVSU back the lead, before Benedict went on a 13-2 game-deciding spurt to make it 66-56 and went on for the victory.

FVSU received a team-high 17 points from Williams. Brenton Cliette Jordan chipped in 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting and seven rebounds.

Both Anthony Gomes and Nyquan McCombs downed 3-of-5 long-range attempts and totaled 16 points apiece to pace the Tigers.

FVSU stays at home where it will host Paine College on Monday night, Feb. 10, starting at 7:30 p.m.
