Wildcats Face Marauders in SIAC 1st Round

ROCK HILL, S.C. – It was one day from being exactly three months since an intense overtime game in Fort Valley. The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament First Round pits a rematch of Fort Valley State and Central State on Tuesday morning.

On December 4, the Wildcats (7-21/5-14 SIAC East) stormed back from an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes where Tristan Davis scooped a missed-shot loose ball from the floor and floated an 8-foot running shot to tie the game at 77 right before the buzzer. FVSU netted the final eight points in the extra period for the 87-82 victory over Central State (16-12/11-8 SIAC West).

FVSU heads into the morning matchup as the sixth seed in the East, while CSU is the third seed in the West. The Wildcats have prevailed in each of the last four meetings, while the Marauders last won on Jan. 4, 2016 by an 86-81 final in Fort Valley.

The Wildcats are 2-3 in the regular season's last five games with a close 65-60 home defeat last Thursday night (Feb. 27) finished the docket. The Marauders won their last two contests with an 89-64 win at Lane (Feb. 25) and a home victory over Bluefield State, 72-70, on Feb. 28.
