Wildcats Field Mistakes Give Panthers Opener, Hold Lead in Suspended Game

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The sun finally showed in Middle Georgia and the Wildcats were able to return to the diamond. Fort Valley State showed rust in the field after the recent wet conditions and gave Clark Atlanta Saturday's opener, before it held the lead after six innings in the late game.

The Panthers (3-5/1-0 SIAC East) took advantage of five Wildcats (3-8/0-1 SIAC East) fielding miscues and built an 8-0 lead after four trips to the plate. FVSU saw Keteria Loney drive a double in the fourth and blasted a two-run triple in the fifth to pull within 9-5. The home team, though, would get no close to fall 13-5 in game one.

FVSU holds a 3-1 lead after six-complete frames in game two before it was suspended due to darkness.

The Wildcats had five multi-hit players with Loney leading the way with her double and triple and four RBI. Destiny Fitzpatrick added two singles and three RBI. Tyana Askew doubled and singled, while Tamani Owens and Ashley Simmons-Blair both singled two times. Shakerra Geter added a double, two runs and a RBI.

FVSU and Clark Atlanta resumes the seventh inning of game two at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, before the two opponents start the third game of the series.
