Wildcats Edged by Panthers in Five Sets

ATLANTA, Ga. – A very promising opening sets turned into a tough Wildcats ending. After Fort Valley State took the first two sets, Clark Atlanta bounced back and edged out a 3-2 women's volleyball victory Tuesday night.
 
Laiani McCullough and Raven Edwards provided the final punches in the first and second sets as FVSU (5-12/1-8 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East) posted 25-23 and 25-22 wins. CAU (9-6/7-4 SIAC East) battled back taking the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-18. The home team went on a 5-1 spurt, including three-straight tallies, for a 14-9 lead and soon after 15-10 final in the deciding set.
 
Edwards paced the Wildcats offense with 11 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. Bianca Haslett added nine kills, three aces and a block. McCullough chipped in eight kills, seven digs, four aces and four assists. Morgan Hebert guided the offense with 27 set assists to go with six kills, four blocks and eight digs.
 
Defensively, Liz Moore dug 14 attacks to go with a pair of aces and assists. Destinee Jackson had a season-best 11 digs, while Naadira Jones was in on five block tandems and downed four kills.
 
FVSU returns to action Friday night, Oct. 15, in a 6 p.m. rematch with Albany State at the HPE Arena.
