Golden Rams Serve Past Wildcats

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A lead in two sets was not enough Friday night. Albany State served 18 aces and took Fort Valley State, 3-0, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball action.
 
The Wildcats (5-13/1-11 SIAC East) took a four-point, 12-8, lead in the middle of the opening set. ASU (9-7/5-1 SIAC East) answered with nine points in a row on the way to a 25-18 set win. The Golden Rams finished the second set with 10 of the final 14 points for a 25-14 set two final. FVSU led 10-8 in the third set, but it fell behind 20-14 before it battled back for a 23-23 tie only to see ASU net the final two points and 25-23 win to end the match.
 
Raven Edwards was the big Wildcats hitter with 13 kills with only one error in 25 swings for a .480 hit percentage and added 13 digs for the double-double. Destinee Jackson chipped in seven kills, 13 digs and three aces. Morgan Hebert set up 23 home kills to go with six kills, a .412 attack percentage, three aces and three digs.
 
ASU's Khalia Thompson served up nine of the team's 18 aces to go with three kills to lead for the visitors.
 
FVSU has 12 days off until it hosts Allen University on Wednesday, Oct. 27, in a 6 p.m. match.
