Wildcats Clip Eagles, Take Second-Straight Match

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – It was a repeat performance by the Wildcats Thursday night. After sweeping its Wednesday match, Fort Valley State clipped Trinity Baptist, 3-0, for its second straight-sets win in as many nights.

FVSU (7-13) wasted no time in taking control with a 7-1 lead and saw the margin go no less than four the rest of the 25-13 opening set. The visiting Eagles pushed back in the second set and held a 23-22 late lead, but the Wildcats netted the final three points, including a kill by Naydiah Kornegay for the 25-23 final. Leading 20-12 in the third set, Trinity Baptist ran off six points in a row, but FVSU finished strong with a Setene Green hard kill on an overpass to finish the match in a 25-20 tally.

In a balanced attack, four Wildcats of Kornegay, Syraih Wynt, Naadira Jones and Laiani McCullough pounded five kills apiece. Morgan Hebert handed out 15 assists, dug six attacks and served up five aces. Bianca Haslett added 11 digs to go with four kills and three aces.

FVSU will now be off until playing at Allen University on Monday night, Nov. 1, in a 6 p.m. match.
