SIAC Release
ATLANTA, Ga. –
Leading the way on the gridiron this fall, the Wildcats were well represented on the league's honored teams. Fort Valley State placed four on the 2021 All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference of center Emmanuel Boone and defenders in safety Zach Anderson and defensive ends Antonio Golden and Zaquan Baldwin. The FVSU trio of defensive back Tyler Moore, running back Emanuel Wilson and offensive guard Waylin Bell earned Second Team status.

Trailing only SIAC East and overall Champion Albany State's nine All-Conference members, FVSU (5-5) tied Savannah State with the second-most overall honored players with seven apiece. The Wildcats also had tied with Lane College for the second-most First Team members of four.

Albany State highlighted the top awards with head coach Gabe Giardina as the Coach of the Year and linebacker Stephan Pierre being voted both the Overall Players of the Year (MVP) and Defensive Player of the Year. Running back Brett Sylve of Kentucky State was the Offensive Player of the Year, while Lane College's running back Ike Brown Freshman of the Year and Central State defensive end Jamal Holloway as the Newcomer of the Year.

Anchoring the offensive line, Boone led the FVSU blocking and repeats as an All-SIAC First Team member. The junior from Macon, Ga., also garnered both the 2019 All-SIAC First Team and 2021 All-SIAC Preseason First Team honors. Boone helped clear the way to the SIAC's leading rusher Emanuel Wilson, who averaged nearly 22 yards per game more than the next SIAC rusher.

The four FVSU All-SIAC defenders helped a unit led the Conference all season until the last two weeks and finished third in Rush Defense at 111.9 yards per game, while it was the top Red Zone Defense at 60.5% (23 of 38) at preventing scores.

Like Boone, Anderson makes a return to the All-SIAC First Team defensive secondary. The 2019 and now 2021 First Team safety recorded 54 tackles, second most on the team, 32 solo, three for a loss, a pass breakup and a 60-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in the season opener against Tuskegee. The Cairo, Ga., product produced five or more in eight of the 10 games with a season-high eight at Allen University and another seven stops against Albany State.

Golden and Baldwin were the top SIAC defensive line tandem this season. The two combined for 29.5 tackles for loss for 112 yards and 14.5 sacks for 80 yards.

After leading the SIAC in tackles for loss the first eight weeks and sacks for the majority of the campaign as well, Golden started the season with a monster game with seven tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble for the Red Tails Classic MVP award in a 30-0 shutout of Tuskegee. He kept it going as one of the top defensive line players. The Midway, Ga., native recorded at least one tackle for loss in all but one contest and multiple tackles for loss in six games. The senior also posted multiple sacks twice in a game as he had two against Savannah State to go with 11 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. On the season, Golden registered 50 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss (1.95 per game, 2nd in SIAC), eight sacks (0.80 per game, 3rd in SIAC), two forced fumbles and seven quarterback hurries.

Baldwin saved his best season for his last. The defensive end from Macon, Ga., finished fifth in sacks (0.65 per game), fourth in force fumbles (0.30 per game) and ninth in tackles for loss (1.00 per game) in the SIAC ranks. Baldwin wrapped up the year with 28 tackles, 16 solo, 10 tackles for loss of 39 yards, 6.5 sacks for 28 yards, three forced fumbles and nine quarterback hurries. Zaquan registered a season-high seven stops at Morehouse College, while he had five against Central State. Baldwin had at least one tackle for loss in each of the first nine game and a sack in seven games.

Tyler Moore was another key part of the FVSU defense as the junior was honored with All-SIAC Second Team status. The defensive back from Ashburn, Ga., was twice an SIAC Player of the Week, once as Special Teams and once for Defensive. Moore placed eighth in passes defended (0.70 per game) and ninth in forced fumbles (0.20 per game) of the SIAC leaders. The third-year player started the year with seven tackles, a strip sack, which Anderson returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery and blocked a punt. He had a season-high 11 tackles with a key third-quarter punt block, which was recovered for a score at Allen University. Tyler added another five games with six-plus tackles. On the year, Moore led the FVSU defense with 57 tackles (5.7 per game) with 7.5 tackles for loss of 25 yards, a sack for eight yards, two interceptions, including one returned for a first-half 40-yard touchdown, five pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and three blocked kicks.

After being a 2021 Preseason All-SIAC Second Team selection, offensive guard Waylin Bell was another Wildcats linemen to clear the path for running back Emanuel Wilson. It is Bell (a junior from Harlem, Ga.) earned Second Team acclaim for the offensive line.

Coming to The Valley for his second full season in college, Wilson (Charlotte, NC) burst onto the scene in Week 4 and led the SIAC in rushing yards per game. The redshirt sophomore ran for a Conference-best 119.3 yards per contest in the final seven games, over 21.7 yards per game better than another other SIAC rusher, and third in the SIAC All-Purpose yards at 132.3 yards per game. The one-time SIAC Newcomer of the Week awardee rushed 147 times for 835 yards, 5.7 yards per carry, and seven touchdowns. He also pulled in 11 passes for 91 yards. Wilson eclipsed 100 yards rushing in five of seven games, including 108 yards against the SIAC's top defense of Albany State, the only opponent to hit the century mark against the unit. The Wildcat back for a season-high 164 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown versus Central State and another 161 yards on 23 totes with another score against Clark Atlanta. The first-year FVSU rusher added 130 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown against Savannah State and another 122 yards on 27 rushes with two scores at Benedict College.
