Doucet Powers Way to SIAC Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week Honor

11/23/2021 11:46:00 AM

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats early season schedule has been brutal, but the young team will benefit from it as shown by various performances. One such performance is Fort Valley State freshman K.J. Doucet powering his way to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week honor.

The Austell, Ga., native led FVSU in three games last week with a 15.0-point, 3.7-rebound, 1.7-block and 1.3-steal average against Shorter, UT-Tyler and Texas A&M-Commerce. In the three contests, the true freshman made 18 of 37 field goal attempts (48.6%) and 8 of 15 3-pointers for his 45 points to go with 11 rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals.

Doucet started the week with a 10-point and seven-rebound effort in a defeat to Shorter University. He added two steals, an assist and a block in the last Tuesday night game.

Over the weekend in Texas, K.J. had a quality pair of games. Last Friday, the 6-6 forward netted 13 points, two blocks, two steals and a rebound at UT-Tyler.

The Wildcat saved his best performance for last. Doucet drained 9 of his 11 field goals and 4 of his 5 from long-range for an early season-best 22 points, while he grabbed three rebounds and blocked two more shots.

In FVSU's first five games, Doucet has made 27 of 56 shots (48.2%) and 11 of 25 3-pointers (44.0%) for a 13.8-point average. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.

FVSU returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 27, in a 3 p.m. home game against Kentucky State.
