Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Georgia Southwestern Clips FVSU in Final Minute

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats fell just short of their test Tuesday night. Georgia Southwestern netted the game-winning jump shot with 42 seconds left and saw Fort Valley State's late attempts be not enough in a 63-60 men's basketball final.

FVSU's Jamal Reynolds made the second of his free throw attempts to tie the game for the fourth time of the second half, 59-59, with 1:11 remaining. Donte Tatum hit a running jumper 29 ticks later to give the Hurricanes (3-4) the 61-59 advantage. K.J. Doucet made one of two foul shots to follow for the home team, but Ga. Southwestern connected on a pair for the 63-60 score with 21 seconds. The Wildcats misfired on a 3-pointer and two technical foul free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the 3-point tough defeat.

Reynolds led the home team for the second game in a row with 15 points on 4 of 8 shooting to go with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Davon Cottle downed four treys for his 12 points. Greg Holloway added nine points and six boards off the FVSU bench.

Tatum led all scorers for the Hurricanes with 19 points, including 10 of 10 from the charity stripe.

FVSU had all the first 10 minutes' momentum as it ran out to a 20-7 lead capped by a Jamarcus Scott 15-foot jump shot at 9:50. The home lead remained at 13 points, 25-12, but Ga. Southwestern chipped away at it until Tatum buried his only triple of the game at the buzzer for a 28-26 halftime score.

FVSU travels to the middle of Tennessee for a Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11th, contest at Lane College. Tip is set for 5 p.m. EST.
