FVSU Softball Takes Pair from Clark Atlanta

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ATLANTA, Ga. -- It was exactly one calendar year since the last Wildcats "W." On Friday afternoon, Fort Valley State posted two victories to start its four-game series at Clark Atlanta, 15-7 and 8-3.

The last FVSU win came in its opening contest of the 2020 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover event where it defeated Miles College, 8-2, in a late morning game before the rest of the event and season was canceled. The pair of Wildcats (2-2) Friday wins were the team's first two of the 2021 season, 365 days later.

FVSU plated three runs in its first at bat of game one. Clark Atlanta (1-3) bounced back for four runs to take the lead in the home third, 4-3. The Wildcats exploded for nine scores in the fifth for the difference of the opener and went on for the 15-7 win.

The visitors jumped out to an early late-game lead with five runs in the opening three frames before they went on for an 8-3 victory.

Kayla Phillips doubled and singled twice and had three RBI for FVSU in the first contest, while Janecia Barber had three singles and drove in three runs. Jahara Buggs singled, scored twice, drove in a pair of runners and walked, while Keteria Loney doubled, singled two times and had an RBI in the late game.

The two SIAC rivals complete their series on Saturday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
