Wildcats Take Advantage of Eagles Miscues, Gillyard Belts Homer in Sweep

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the third full season in a row, the Wildcats hit double digits in victories on the diamond. Fort Valley State took advantage of 15 Trinity Baptist errors and saw Tailor Gillyard belt a three-run home run late in Tuesday afternoon softball sweep, 12-6 and 9-2.
 
The Wildcats pushed across multiple runs in four of seven at bats of game one. After three unearned first-inning runs, FVSU added four more scores in the second on the way to doubling up the home team of game one.
 
In game two, the Wildcats plated five runs with two outs with a Keteria Loney RBI single as the top hit. FVSU held a 6-2 lead on Trinity Baptist (3-24) when Gillyard went deep with both Destiny Fitzpatrick and Rasheedah Hasan, who both singled, were on base for the three-run homer.
 
With the two wins, FVSU sealed a double-digit win season at 10-9.
 
Hasan accounted for four of the team's 16 hits in six at bags with four runs and a double. Fitzpatrick went 3 for 7 with four runs and two RBI. Loney and Tamani Owens added a single in each contest. Gillyard had her best day at the plate in her first year with her three-run home run and a RBI single in game one with three total runs.

Ja'Necia and Jakyra Lemmon contributed a single each with Jahara Buggs lofting a sac fly in each contest.
 
Caprice Johnson and Re'Nesha Goolsby logged wins in the circle.
 
FVSU will be off for 10 days before it wraps up the 2021 regular season with a four-game series at rival Albany State on April 23-24.
