Golden and Hicks Help Wildcats 2021 Defensive Improvement

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Despite being without nearly half of the unit's starters, the Wildcats prowled against their two spring foes. Fort Valley State defensive end Antonio Golden and free safety Mike Hicks, Jr., helped show the 2021 spring defensive improvement.

The two veteran Wildcats defenders aided in the unit having many new players get plenty of action have two successful games in wins over Shorter and Erskine.

With Golden and Hicks in the starting lineup, the FVSU defense forced eight turnovers, four each game, while it allowed 39 points (19.5 ppg) in the eight quarters.

Other Wildcats defensive highlights:

DE Golden: 11 tackles, 8 solo, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sacks, 1 QB hurry and a fumble recovery
FS Hicks: 4 tackles and 2 pass breakups
Defensive unit playing without half the projected starters:
16 tackles for loss of 55 yards
6 sacks for 29 yards
3 interceptions
5 pass breakups
10 QB hurries
5 fumble recoveries
3 forced fumbles
