Wildcats Edged in Game 1, Miscues Costly Late Against Tigers

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats final 2021 home appearance didn't go as planned in the pregame. Fort Valley State missed opportunities and was edged, 9-7, in game one, before Edward Waters took advantage of costly miscues for the late victory and sweep.
 
Trailing 7-6 in the home fifth, the Wildcats (7-8) put runners on second and third with no outs, but the lead runner was caught off base and two eventual strikeouts left the bases loaded. The Tigers (13-9) answered with a pair of pushed some insurance runs in the sixth for a three-run lead, 9-6, while a Jakiya Lemon RBI single in the seventh was all the closer the home team managed in the final two trips to the plate.

In the second contest, Edward Waters took advantage of seven FVSU errors, which resulted in nine runs of the 10-0 six-inning final.
 
On the afternoon, Tamani Owens paced the Wildcats hitters with a double and two singles in her 3-for-6 day with two runs scored. Kayla Phillips, Keteria Loney and Rasheedah Hasan all had identical two singles, a run and one RBI. Destiny Fitzpatrick lined a two-run single and Tailor Gillyard accounted for the final FVSU hit.
 
FVSU will now be off until next Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11, in a four-game series at Benedict College.
