FVSU Places Trio on 2021 Division II/NAIA All-HBCU Honors

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – With a winning spring season in the books, the Wildcats gained one final accolades for a trio of players. Fort Valley State place the trio of seniors Kayla Phillips and Keteria Loney and sophomore Tamani Owens on the 2021 Division II/NAIA All-HBCU Honors team.

The three Wildcats were the top hitters and helped lead FVSU to a solid 12-7 record on the field, including wins in five of the last six games of the year. The FVSU trio combined to hit .368 (70 of 190) with 44 runs, 14 doubles, 31 RBI and a .442 slugging percentage as the top hitters.

Leading both at the plate and in the circle, Phillips posted a .388 average hitting and a 2.58 ERA pitching. She went 26 of 67 with a team-high eight doubles and a .507 slugging percentage. The senior went 4-4 with five complete games and 27 strikeouts over 54.1 innings of work.

Third baseman Loney lined 25 hits in 67 at bats for a .373 average. She added 15 runs, three doubles and tied for the team lead with 16 RBI while second in slugging percentage (.418).

Centerfielder Owens contributed 19 hits, a .339 average, 14 runs and three doubles for her season.
