Wildcats Split Women’s Volleyball Tri-Match

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The young Wildcats' growth is already showing. Fort Valley State swept past Paine College, 3-0, before it fell in three competitive sets to Edward Waters College in Sunday's final match.
.
Bianca Haslett's eight kills led a balanced FVSU (2-2) attack with eight kills and two aces in the straight-set win over Paine College by scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-23.

Haslett added nine kills and hit .296 in the tough match against Edward Waters in sets of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-17.

Along with Haslett's 17 total kills, Raven Edwards chipped in 13 kills and Syraih Wint had nine. Morgan Hebert combined for 45 assists, while Elizabeth Moore had 17 digs.

Against Paine, FVSU quickly opened a 14-4 lead and never turned back in the first set. The Wildcats broke open the second set as they took the margin from two points up to six, 16-10. After a lineup change, FVSU scored three of the final four points to win the third set.

Tied at 9-9, Edward Waters rattled off the next five points and went on for the six-point first-set victory. The Wildcats were right there in set two tied, 11-11, and pulled back to within 18-15, but could not take the lead. In set three, the Tigers started off with the opening six points, and held off the Wildcats to any closer than 9-7 midway through the set.

FVSU will now be off until it plays Friday night, Sept. 17, at Savannah State in a 6 p.m. match.
