Wildcats Aims to Continue Series Success
With a return to a full season, the FVSU rivals are renewed. The Wildcats aim to continue one of its most successful of the SIAC East series against the Tigers. In the previous 30 meetings, FVSU claimed 23 victories at a .767 win percentage.
FVSU has went 8-2 in the last 10 matchups, including a neutral-site contest in Greenville, S.C., by a 50-16 final tally on Sept. 28 of 2019.
Benedict won the 2018 meeting at the same Johnson Stadium in a close, 28-20, final. In fact, the Tigers have won the last two games they have hosted with a 28-14 decision in the 2016 game.
FVSU posted wins in six-straight from 2010-15 with two victories in Columbia.

Rivals Come off Opposite Outcomes
The two SIAC East rivals come off the opposite outcomes from the gridiron a week ago. Benedict saw a halftime lead fade away in the second half, while FVSU broke open a close game for a runaway victory.
Played in Indianapolis, the Tigers had its 28-17 lead after two frames evaporate when the Thorobreds of Kentucky State scored 17 second-half tallies for the 34-28 win. Kentucky State rushed for 450 yards against Benedict without completing a pass, while the Tigers passed for 290 of their 404 offensive yards.
After having a tight 26-20 lead at intermission, a Tyler Moore mid-third quarter blocked punt recovered for a touchdown shifted the momentum clearly on the Wildcats side and there it stayed. FVSU added 23 more points and a total of 30-0 in the final two 15-minute periods for the going away 56-20 road win over Allen University. Moore earned the SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors with the blocked punt, 11 tackles and two pass breakups.

FVSU Seek Repeat of Last Game vs. Benedict
Teams always want to repeat any kind of success and FVSU's outcome in the last time on the gridiron against Benedict would be one of these occasions.
In 2019 trailing 3-0 after one quarter, FVSU kicked things into gear in the second stanza. The Wildcats outscored the Tigers, 29-6, in the second and never was challenged again in the afternoon for the 50-16 final.
The Wildcats offense outgained the Tigers by the wide margin of 532 to 275 yards on 15 more plays from scrimmage. The FVSU defense forced 11 Benedict punts, a season-high seven sacks and four fumbles.
After a tough 4 for 13 first quarter for 22 yards, Jarman found his grove and so did the FVSU offense. The senior went 21 of 30 covering 369 yards and 6 touchdowns over the next two-and-a-half quarters. On the night, the Wildcats quarterback was 25 of 43 for 391 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also ran eight times for 19 yards
Jahseari Patterson led a ball-hungry defense as he recorded 3.5 tackles for loss of 22 yards, two sacks, forced a fumble, two quarterback hurries and a team-high seven tackles.

Battle of Two of SIAC's Top Offenses
On Saturday, the two defenses will have their work cut out for them as two of the SIAC's top offensive units will take the field. It will be the league's top scoring offense in Benedict (30.2 ppg) against the second-best unit of FVSU (29.3 ppg).
The Tigers also lead the Conference in total offense (441.8 yds/gm) and pass offense (302.0 yds/gm), while fifth in rush offense (139.8 yds/gm). The Wildcats are not far behind with the third-best pass offense (259.5 yds/gm) and fifth overall offense (346.8 yds/gm), but the rush attack is 10th at 87.2 yds/contest.
Leading these potent offenses are the two top-rated signal callers in FVSU's Tyrell Jackson and Benedict's Eric Phoenix. Jackson passes for an average of 257.5 yds/gm, while Phoenix is right behind at 247.0 yds/gm. Phoenix is tops in total offense (269.5 yds/gm), while Jackson is second (257.5 yds/gm).

Wildcats First True Home Game Next Weekend
After playing their lone home game at Peach County High School's new field two weeks ago, the Wildcats open the new-and-improved Wildcat Stadium next weekend. When Central State comes to Middle Georgia, FVSU reveals its new turf field and track surface for the game on Oct. 2nd in a 2 p.m. kick-off.
