Young Wildcats Post First Season Sweep, Defeat Scots

DECATUR, Ga. – An important first step for a young team is to sweep an opponent and the Wildcats did just that Thursday night. The young Fort Valley State women's volleyball team took care of Agnes Scott, 3-0, on the road to win both ends of the meetings with the foe.

After taking the first meeting in four sets, the Wildcats (5-10) did not let the match get that far along with a straight sets shutout (25-22, 27-25 and 25-18) over the Scots (1-11).

Following four late-match ties, FVSU was able to get a kill by Bianca Haslett and a home attack error for the key two points of the night to edge out the 27-25 second set. The Wildcats took control in the middle of the third set and completed the 3-0 victory.

Laiani McCullough had the big night for the visitors as she downed 14 kills, hit .391, lined three aces and dug 10 attacks for the double-double. Setter Morgan Hebert added 26 assists, three kills, two aces and 10 digs for her own double-double.

Haslett chipped in eight kills and 14 digs, while Raven Edwards finished with five kills, four digs and an ace. Elizabeth Moore had nine digs for the defense.

FVSU had its best set hitting in the third where it hit .333 with 13 kills and only two errors.

FVSU will now have just over a week off before it returns home and league play against Benedict College on Friday night, Oct. 8, starting at 6 p.m.
