FORT VALLEY, Ga. – In the second match of the opening weekend, the Wildcats gave first-year head coach Larry Wrather his inaugural collegiate head coaching win. Fort Valley State women's volleyball started slow in the opening set, but came back to take it and the next two for a 3-0 win over Wesleyan College on Saturday evening.

Trailing 10-6 early in the opening set, FVSU rattled off eight-straight points for a 14-10 lead. The home team went on for the 25-17 first-set win. A Raven Edwards kill ended set two and a Wolves service error ended the third set for 25-20 and 25-22 final tallies.

Laiani McCullough paced the home offense with eight kills, three service aces and eight digs. Edwards added seven kills, hit .263, dug six attacks and one ace. Syraih Wint chipped in six kills in 12 attacks (.500) while Morgan Hebert handed out 22 assists and Elizabeth Moore finished with 13 digs.

FVSU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 11, when it hosts Paine College at 3 p.m. and Edward Waters in a 6 p.m. match.
